Sacred Origin

Lalitha Sahasranamam, Om Sri Mathre Namaha

According to sacred tradition, Goddess Lalithambika instructed the eight Vag Devis—Vasini, Kameswari, Aruna, Vimala, Jayani, Modini, Sarveswari, and Koulini—to compose the Lalitha Sahasranamam, the thousand divine names in praise of the Supreme Mother, for the benefit of mankind. These sacred names are believed to bestow lasting contentment, spiritual growth, and a healthy, balanced life upon sincere devotees.

The birthplace of Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam is Thirumeyachur, near Thiruvarur. At this holy site, Sage Agasthya was initiated into this divine hymn through a sacred dialogue with Lord Hayagriva. The hymns begin with the words “Agasthya Uvacha” and reveal the greatness and supreme nature of the Divine Mother. From time immemorial, these thousand names have been preserved by learned scholars and passed down through generations, chanted with deep bhakti bhava. It is believed that the more one chants, the greater the spiritual and worldly benefits received.

Divine Inspiration and Vision of the Movement

With the boundless grace of Sri Lalithambika, the vision to propagate the chanting of her thousand divine names dawned in the heart of our Founder President, Dr. Sree Sudha. The movement was initiated with sincere prayers for the welfare of Sarve Janaha—all living beings—without distinction.

To unite like-minded devotees, a collective platform known as SS Groups was formed, bringing all participants under one spiritual umbrella. The essence of the movement is deeply rooted in the principles of Sahasranama Sangamam and LokaKshemam, where global welfare stands as the central theme. The ultimate aim is to praise the Divine Mother through her thousand names, humbly seeking her protection, blessings, and fulfillment of rightful desires for all living beings.

Birth and Early Expansion of Sahasranama Sangamam

Sahasranama Sangamam was conceived in the early days of 2016. During this period, Dr. Sree Sudha organized and conducted lectures, parayanams, and spiritual discourses in satsangs in and around Chennai to spread awareness about the power and benefits of chanting Lalitha Sahasranamam. Gradually, more devotees began to participate, drawn by faith, discipline, and shared devotion.

Encouraged by this growing response, the vision expanded beyond local boundaries. The movement began to gain strength as devotees experienced divine guidance and inspiration in everyday life. This unwavering dedication led to innovative ideas rooted in complete devotion and surrender, further strengthening the foundation of the movement.

Structured Growth and Chanting Process

As participation increased, the total count of recited names steadily grew, reaching 2,00,000 recitations in 2016, and continuing to rise thereafter. To ensure smooth coordination, devotees were organized into structured groups, each consisting of 200 to 250 members. By April 2018, the movement had grown into nine SS Groups.

Initially, members were requested to complete their Sahasranama parayanam and submit the counts every Friday by 10:00 PM. To accommodate overseas devotees, the reporting timelines were gradually extended and modified based on convenience. The final summaries and total counts were verified and approved in consultation with the Global Representatives and the Head of Representatives (HOR). Over time, the cumulative chant count crossed eight digits and expanded into multi-crore figures.

Expansion to Vishnu Sahasranamam and Sacred Milestones

As the movement continued to evolve, chanting of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam was also introduced. Dr. Sree Sudha visited Thirumeyachur to place the collective chant records at the lotus feet of Goddess Lalithambika and performed Sahasranama Archanai, marking a significant spiritual milestone.

Annual celebrations of Sahasranama Sangamam were organized in Chennai on 28-11-2018 and 25-11-2019, with representatives from across India participating and offering prayers for universal welfare. Various poojas were conducted strictly in accordance with Agama Shastras. Another notable achievement was the consecration of a Panchaloka idol of Sarva Karya Siddhi Lalithambika, which is now worshipped regularly with poojas and Sahasranama parayanams.

Global Reach, Gratitude, and Continuing Mission

Sahasranama parayanam campaigns were later conducted in cities such as Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, further expanding the movement’s reach. From nine SS Groups in 2018, the movement has grown to fifteen SS Groups, with devotees participating from various countries. Members actively engage in chanting and timely submission of data, reflecting their sincerity and commitment.

The movement gratefully acknowledges the dedicated service of Sri Peri Surya Prakash Garu, former Head of Representatives, whose devotion and tireless coordination ensured the smooth functioning of activities during critical phases.

May Goddess Sarva Karya Siddhi Lalithambika bless this sacred mission with strength and continuity, guiding it to greater heights. May all devotees receive her abundant grace, and may this noble cause—chanting of Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam and Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam—serve the welfare of humanity and bring peace, harmony, and protection to all.
